In trauma, hypothermia begins when the body's core temperature dips below 36 c (96. 8 f). Temperatures between 36 and 34 c are considered mild; Hypovolaemic shock that results through traumatically inflicted haemorrhage can have disastrous consequences for the victim. Initially the body can compensate for lost circulating volume, but as haemorrhage continues compensatory mechanisms fail and the patient's condition worsens significantly.
